It was not the distance but more the uncertain bike path and managing the distance in time. The mountain bike is not exactly a steady commuter to ride to work. I rode 27.4km and arrived into Zuccoli in 1:30min.
My mental prep for the ride home to Darwin City was already building.
Having taught my Year 3 class all day, I needed to endure the 36 degree heat riding home.
Adding to the exhaustion of my days' energetic teaching, threat of a thunderstorm ahead, constant adjustments to the clunk of the "out of whack" gears and riding off in the hot head wind with a few tricky inclines to defeat was on my mind.
It was more challenging heading back to Darwin and all of this added and hour to the return journey but I eventually made it. Seeing the home final stretch was bliss. It was all worth it ...58km done!
I am focussed on my training to make the 350km in October.
