• Ride 4: Yerrabi Pond again (without help from the car)
    23 Oct 2026

So today I went back to Yerrabi, but this time without taking the car some of the way. I rode all the way from home this time and doubled my riding distance in one hit! Good to be feeling well enough to do so! (Though my knees don't agree about this!).

I love to visit Yerrabi Pond after work on a Friday. There's so much that's lovely to absorb with sight and sound that you can totally immerse yourself in it. It's a great disconnect from the week at work.

Feeling so much more like myself now, so hoping I can get some more longish rides in before the month ends.

  • Ride 3: Yerrabi Pond
    20 Oct 2026

I'm still struggling with health and energy this week and was feeling quite down about it all. A friend suggested we meet at Yerrabi to sit and share the sunshine for a while, so I decided to take my bike along and go for a ride afterwards. I'm glad I did because the sitting and chatting in the sun pulled out of my own head for a bit and I actually felt up to doing a short ride. It is frustrating that I can't do more at the moment, but I'm grateful for what I've achieved so far.

  • Ride 2: Ride to work brekky
    14 Oct 2026

Well, I think I'm finally better now, so time to try and do some catchup. So yesterday I decided I WOULD make it to the Ride to Work brekky team-mate Pete invited me to. Which meant dragging myself out of bed before 8 for the first time in nearly two weeks and doing the cycle/tram thing into the city. That meant two short 2.8km rides with a nice break and some brekky in between. Easy!

Except it was FREEZING cold!! One of Canberra's classic October "surprises" (that happens too regularly for it to really be a surprise anymore!) when the temperature was not far above zero!! And windy! Especially in the city where it whips around all the tall buildings and makes its own microclimate. I didn't even get the benefit of a warm brekky, because when it came to it, my stomach just couldn't face a bacon and egg roll, which was all that was on offer. Anyway, I did the ride ok, but there are no photos. My hands were just too cold! I had to have a shower when I got home just to thaw out my legs!

  • First tentative steps (oops! Pedals)
    8 Oct 2026

8 days in and I finally got on the bike, for a short time! Unfortunately, I got sick last week and am still recovering, so haven't managed to climb in the saddle until today and could only go a very short distance to start with. So it's a very tentative first pedal, but I'm glad to get started as earlier in the week I didn't think I'd be able to ride all week. Honestly, I haven't been able to win trick healthwise this year so to be in the saddle at all is a blessing! So just a quick jaunt around the local suburb to get me going.
